Why video is the most effective form of content

Today online there are many different forms of digital content. There are images, webinars, articles, polls, blogs, reviews, texts, emails, GIFs, tweets, podcasts, powerpoints, games, PDFs and more. The possibilities for creating content are nearly limitless as you can create it on almost any topic and present it in almost any format.

When it comes to social media content, people are primarily posting either text or image updates. This can be good in some instances, but it is nowhere near as captivating as video. Today we live in a very fast-paced world where people are quickly scrolling through their social media feeds desperately trying to find the next exciting piece of content to keep them entertained. If it's a large piece of text or a static image, it's very likely that the audience will just glance at it quickly before scrolling onto the next item.

Video can break this cycle as it naturally captures our attention by utilising movement and sound. Our human eye is naturally drawn towards movement, so when we see a moving image on our social media feeds we instantly sit up and pay attention. The sound is able to immerse us further into the world of the video we are watching and engage us in a way that other forms of content simply cannot do.

According to studies, the average viewer remembers 95% of a message when it's watched. Compared to only 10% when it's read. Think about if you need to change a car tyre. Would you read a 20 page book explaining step by step how to change the tyre? Or would you rather watch a quick 5 minute video on YouTube that explains everything you need to know, while actually showing you how to do it. Which one would you prefer?

Lastly, it's been reported that users spend 88% more time on a website that has video compared to a site that doesn't use video. This alone shows how powerful video is at catching audience's attention and keeping them engaged. If you're able to have your customers watch a video on your website explaining what you do, they'll then be more likely to explore your website further to learn more and eventually buy from you.

If you're not currently using video to promote your business, you're definitely missing out.
